MAS Researcher Awarded “Premio Referente Mujer STEM de la Región de Antofagasta 2023” Prize

Millarca Valenzuela received prize in the category Science & Technology. The recognition was given by LIQCAU Project.

With the aim of strengthen the inclusion of girls and women in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) area and recognize inspiring women that have reached a successful career among these disciplines, is that three years ago the award “Premio Referente Mujer STEM” is given. The LIQCAU Projectorganizes the awards, initiative carried out by the Consorcio de Facultades de Ingeniería de la Región de Antofagasta HEUMAwhich gathers the Faculty of Engineering from the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN) and from Universidad de Antofagasta.

In its third version, five areas were prized: Industry, Mining, Pyme Ebterprises, Emerging Talent, and Science & Technology. In the latter category, Millarca Valenzuela received the award, Professor from the Geological Department UCN and MAS researcher.

The Ph.D. in Geology is the first scientists in study meteorites in our country. She has promoted projects to protect these objects in Chile and has an outstanding career in researching these space rocks. Furthermore, is part of the FRIPON-Chilein which MAS is involved, a follow-up camera networking of extraterrestrial particles that land in national territory in order to classify its impact area and claim these objects.
