More than a hundred older adults are part of the Open University for the Elderly of the Gerontology Centre of the Municipality of El Bosque. Thanks to the work with the Puentes UC programme and now with MAS, many of them will be able to access different astronomical outreach activities.
In three days, almost 80 people have already walked the 800-metre distance from the Sun to Neptune in the Solar System to Scale that MAS has at the San Joaquín UC Campus.. Each visit was guided by astronomer MORE Tracy Catalánwho not only told them about the characteristics of each of the objects, but also answered each of the many enthusiastic questions the participants had about our home in the universe.
These three visits are just part of a series of actions that MAS is carrying out together with the Universidad Abierta para Personas Mayores de la Municipalidad de El Bosque and the Puentes UC programme. "For a long time, as ObservaMAS we have wanted to carry out activities with older adults, as they are a public that is sometimes relegated and do not always have the option of accessing outreach activities. We really appreciate the work being done by the Gerontological Centre of El Bosque and we are very happy to contribute a grain of sand. In addition, the participants rewarded us with great enthusiasm during the visits of each of the three groups that toured the Solar System to Scale," he says. Makarena Estrella PachecoMAS outreach and communications officer.
In the coming weeks and months, when weather conditions improve, it is hoped to be able to hold a massive talk at the University's own headquarters and to end the year with a night-time observation.
