Each year the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics MAS has the mission of convening institutions and groups of amateur astronomy lovers to carry out activities related to the study of asteroids and thus celebrate their international day, which is commemorated every year. June 30. It is the ninth International Asteroid Day coordinated by MAS and the third to be held in the municipal park Pueblito de Las Vizcachas.
On the occasion, MAS surprised the attendees with the astronomical cuisinewhere participants were able to see how a comet is "cooked" and thus understand its composition. At the same time, through 3D modelsThe characteristics of the asteroids and details of the project were explained. ATLAS which allows to track these objects and thus study which ones will be potentially dangerous for the Earth. Even the characters associated with this project led in Chile by MAS - the Chilesaurus Bennu, the TRex Pallas and the Paranthodon Isis and representing the three locations where the ATLAS telescopes are installed - were printed for photographs and available at the workshop. In addition to the activities of the organizing center, the esplanade area of the park received various institutions and astronomy groups, which carried out the following activities workshops, meteorite exhibitions, storytelling, rocketry, contests and telescope observation.. While the ALMA Observatory set up a space with his board game "ALMAsteroid", the "ALMAsteroid", the Institute of Astrophysical Studies UDP together with Inclusive Geology set up a booth with tactile samples of the solar system; the Center of Excellence in Astrofísica y Tecnologías Afines CATA a booth dedicated to the Moon and the effect of asteroids on its surface; Astromania Foundation had board games and augmented reality and AUI/NRAO workshops on the scales of the solar system and inclusive asteroid search. For its part, the Cerro Navia Science Directorate mounted an exhibition of meteorites, together with Alfilmedia 3Dand a robotics exhibition; and the Wintata Wara Astrofriends Club and Astrotourism Centauri made observations of the Sun, while the Millennium Institute for Research in Optics – MIRO conducted experiments to understand the behavior of light.
At the same time, Little Big Stars Foundation organized the launch of its new storyteller "Artie wants to be a rockstar" and also enjoyed the live music of the following bands Desert Art and Carpe DiemThe fair also featured the sale of astronomical articles and art from the hand of Wanglen Store, Science Entertained, Art Beamin and Science in Art.
