MAS will be present in two locations with activities around the annular solar eclipse.

Both Coyhaique and Rapa Nui will be involved in collaborative activities to bring details of the eclipse to the local population.

Chile will have a new opportunity to experience a solar eclipse, after the extensive eclipse season experienced in 2019 (Atacama Region), 2020 (Araucanía Region) and 2021 (Antarctica). However, this time it is a annular solar eclipseThe Moon is characterised by the fact that it is not able to block out the entire Sun, producing a ring of sunlight known as the "Ring of Fire".

This annular eclipse, which will be experienced on 2 October, will be visible mainly in Rapa Nui and in some areas of the Aysén Region.mainly in the Laguna San Rafael National Park.

In this context, MAS and its outreach programme ObservaMAS will carry out various activities in the areas benefiting from this incredible astronomical spectacle.

Coyhaique

Although in Coyhaique the eclipse will be partial, the Sun will be covered by a large percentage (84%). That is why the Municipality of that commune, together with Future Congress in your community, INJUV Aysén y el millennium institute of astrophysics have organised a series of activities for the local community. The activity "Ring of Fire in Patagoniawill start at 10 AM with a talk by astronomer MAS, Tracy Catalán in the Pedro Quintana Mansilla School for boys and girls in seventh and eighth grade. In addition, the "Eclipses" workshop will be held for fifth and sixth grade students, where they will be invited to build a model to understand how these phenomena work. Afterwards, they will move to the John Paul II Secondary School where two new workshops will be held for students of this establishment. The activity will be marked by a talk by the astronomer and populariser Juan Carlos Beamín at 15:30 hours. This will be followed by observation of the maximum of the eclipse from 17:00 hours.

Rapa Nui

In addition to these actions in the region of Aysén, the MAS Director Francisco Förster moved to Rapa Nui to take part in a series of activities, organised by the Planetario de Rapa Nui, la Dirección de Turismo of the island and the Center of Excellence in Astrofísica y Tecnologías Afines CATA. Förster will give the talk "Eclipses" at the Planetarium on Tuesday 1 at 18:00 (local time) and then be part of a live broadcast of the event from the Tahai area.
