The Santiago Library se llenó de entusiasmo y curiosidad el pasado 24 de julio, cuando más de 1.000 participantes se dieron cita para la primera edición de «Invierno con Ciencia».
During the event, attendees - mostly students from seventh to fourth grade - were able to enjoy various workshops, lectures, art exhibits, books, stores and other experiences that sought to promote interest in science. Antarctica and climate change, mental health, chemical and biological sciences, light phenomena, astronomy, biomedical engineering and medical imaging, marine sciences and microbiology, Chilean dinosaurs, geology and volcanology, mathematics and super adaptable plants were some of the central themes at the scientific stands, each with its own didactic and educational experiences.
The meeting sought to mark a difference with respect to other outreach events and to be held in winter, in order to offer more options to the public to participate in this type of activities.. Collaboration was key to achieving this. For Marcela Valdés Rodríguez, directora de la Biblioteca de Santiago, esta actividad fue: “Una posibilidad para acercar a los jóvenes a la ciencia y despertar su interés en ella, construir futuro y acercarlos a la biblioteca como espacio de información, conocimiento y recreación. Lo más destacable es la asociatividad y el haber podido relacionarnos y trabajar en conjunto con los centros de la Iniciativa Científica Milenio. Esto nos permite generar relaciones de colaboración que finalmente benefician a una parte importante de la población y de la comunidad de la Biblioteca de Santiago», señaló.
The meeting was an initiative organized by the centers: Instituto Milenio de Investigación en Óptica (MIRO), Instituto Milenio en Ingeniería e Inteligencia Artificial para la Salud (iHEALTH), Instituto Milenio de Astrofísica (MAS), Instituto Milenio de Investigación en Riesgo Volcánico (Ckelar Volcanes) y Comunidad InGenio – ISCI (Instituto Sistemas Complejos de Ingeniería), en conjunto con la Biblioteca de Santiago y patrocinado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología, Conocimiento e Innovación.
To Paulina Andrade, Encargada de Comunicaciones del Milenio de Investigación en Óptica (MIRO) y quien estuvo en la organización central del evento: «Ha sido gratificante, primero, ver que hemos podido trabajar en equipo y coordinarnos muy bien con la Biblioteca y entre los mismos centros e institutos de investigación. Llegó una alta convocatoria de colegios, estudiantes y público general, padres con sus hijos y personas que vieron la cartelera y la oferta que había para hoy y vinieron a las charlas. Eso nos deja muy contentos y satisfechos del esfuerzo que hicimos, porque la idea es que este espacio se disfrutara y fuese un lugar de encuentro agradable y también un espacio nutritivo de aprendizaje para la comunidad», puntualizó.
