A new day of "Congreso Futuro en tu comuna" took place at Dr. Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital , had the ObservaMAS team from the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics MAS as guests.
That day, MAS astronomers, Bárbara Pozo, Javier Correa and Silvio Ulloa, were part of the scientific fair for the outpatient pediatric care mounted in the main hall of the hospital, where astronomy merged with the robotic activities led by Ideo Maker group and the Math Festival (supported by the Chilean Mathematical Society.)
Also, MAS carried out the taller «Astropintura» para niños y niñas del colegio hospitalario «A todo corazón» y visitaron con patients from the Nephrology and Dialysis Unit bringing activities.
It's not the first time that ObservaMAS carries out these kind of activities. Last year, participated in the first version of Congreso Futuro at Calvo Mackenna but also, in May, MAS visited the Hospital School from Padre Hurtado Hospital and some years before the pandemic, it was carried out workshops at Exequiel González Cortés Hospital, thanks to a partnership with Nuestros Hijos Foundation, also activities at Teletón, Coanil, among others.
About the visit to Calvo Mackenna, Tracy Catalán, MAS outreach assistant, says "our institution has the mission of bringing science to people, that they step into it. We go wherever people are," whereas senator Francisco Chahuán, who attended the last activity, said that "bring these activities translates into a distraction for children enabling access to science, technology, innovation, and knowledge."
In turn, the Director of the Children Hospital Dr. Luis Calvo Mackenna, Michel Royer, señaló que “este tipo de actividades les alegra el corazón a todos, a nuestros niños, a sus familias, a funcionarios y a toda la comunidad».
