I obtained my BA in Astrophysics from Swarthmore College and my PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Penn State University (PSU), and I am currently a Fondecyt postdoctoral scholar at the Universidad de Valparaíso (UV).
My main interest is star-forming regions in the Milky Way Galaxy, which produce massive clusters of young stars. I worked on PSU’s MYStIX X-ray/infrared study of nearby star-forming regions, where we identified numerous new young stars and were able to derive new relations between star cluster properties. I continue related work at UV, making use of the Vista Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) survey and Chilean near-infrared spectroscopic facilities. I focus on properties of hierarchical star-cluster formation, the dynamics of young stellar clusters, and the dispersal of stars from these clusters into the Milky Way.
