Measuring the length of a stick’s shadow placed vertically in different areas of the Earth (Siena and Alexandria) during the summer solstice, Eratosthenes demonstrated the spherical shape of the Earth, and he even calculated a rough estimation of the terrestrial radio.
Centuries later, our Deputy Director Manuela Zoccali, next to the Under Secretary of the Chilean Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología, Conocimiento e Innovación) Carolina Torrealba; and the Executive Director of the Millennium Science Initiative, Nicole Ehrenfeld, carried out this experiment at the same time that the students from Liceo Bicentenario Santa María de Iquique School.
