Transients, Variables, and Planets
HiTS and ASSA-SN are two of the wide-field optical surveys conducted by MAS. These surveys cover a broad range in magnitude (17-24th) and limiting cadence (2 days-2 hours), allowing us to explore the luminosity-time scale of the parameter space for transient phenomena. MAS is currently planning HATPI, a high-cadence all-sky survey. These data are a hidden treasure for the study of transient and time-variable phenomena (RR Lyrae, SNe, GRBs) and will enable us to discover planets in transit around bright stars and a plethora of unknown phenomena.
