{"id":15761,"date":"2017-05-24T10:24:32","date_gmt":"2017-05-24T14:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.astrofisicamas.cl\/?p=15761"},"modified":"2023-08-07T21:06:03","modified_gmt":"2023-08-07T21:06:03","slug":"nuestra-investigacion-usando-supernovas-de-tipo-ii-para-explorar-el-universo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/astrofisicamas.cl\/en\/nuestra-investigacion-usando-supernovas-de-tipo-ii-para-explorar-el-universo\/","title":{"rendered":"Nuestra investigaci\u00f3n: Usando supernovas de tipo II para explorar el Universo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong><em>Por \u00d3smar Rodr\u00edguez, estudiante de doctorado MAS \/ UNAB<\/em><\/strong><!--more--><\/h4>\n<p><strong>El Universo se est\u00e1 expandiendo: mientras m\u00e1s lejos est\u00e1n las galaxias, m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido se alejan de nosotros. <\/strong>Esta concepci\u00f3n del Universo, contraria a la idea de un Universo est\u00e1tico que podr\u00edamos tener (y que incluso Albert Einstein apoyaba en 1917), comenz\u00f3 a ser aceptada gracias a los trabajos de Georges Lema\u00eetre y Edwin Hubble en los a\u00f1os 20. Hacia fines del siglo XX, dos grupos de astrof\u00edsicos observaron algunos de los objetos m\u00e1s lejanos hasta entonces, y descubrieron de forma independiente que el Universo no solo se est\u00e1 expandiendo, sino que esta <strong>expansi\u00f3n es acelerada: las galaxias m\u00e1s lejanas se est\u00e1n alejando de nosotros mucho m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que lo predicho por la relaci\u00f3n encontrada por Lema\u00eetre y Hubble. Este resultado, importante para la cosmolog\u00eda moderna (y que les vali\u00f3 el Premio Nobel de F\u00edsica en 2011), depende crucialmente de cu\u00e1n bien pueden los astr\u00f3nomos determinar la velocidad a la que se alejan las galaxias (llamada velocidad de recesi\u00f3n) y la distancia a la que est\u00e1n. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00bfC\u00f3mo lo hacemos? Para medir velocidades de recesi\u00f3n, analizamos su efecto sobre la longitud de onda de la luz que observamos. Similar al sonido de la sirena de una ambulancia que se aleja de nosotros, que se vuelve m\u00e1s grave cuanto mayor es la velocidad relativa, <strong>la luz de un objeto se vuelve m\u00e1s roja a mayor velocidad de recesi\u00f3n. Para medir distancias de objetos lejanos tambi\u00e9n usamos la luz observada, pero ahora su intensidad.<\/strong> Pensemos, por ejemplo, en la percepci\u00f3n que tenemos de qu\u00e9 tan lejos est\u00e1 un auto dependiendo del brillo de sus luces. Los astr\u00f3nomos podemos cuantificar estos dos efectos para calcular velocidades de recesi\u00f3n y distancias. Ahora nos podemos preguntar \u00bfqu\u00e9 objetos observan los astr\u00f3nomos para estudiar la expansi\u00f3n del Universo?<\/p>\n<p>Sabemos que mientras m\u00e1s brillante el objeto, desde m\u00e1s lejos se puede ver. Es por esta raz\u00f3n que los astr\u00f3nomos han usado uno de los eventos m\u00e1s brillantes del Universo: las supernovas. Las supernovas son explosiones catastr\u00f3ficas que marcan el final de la vida de las estrellas (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.astrofisicamas.cl\/buscando-supernovas-en-tiempo-real-2\/\">ver columna de Francisco F\u00f6rster<\/a>). Entre ellas est\u00e1n las supernovas de tipo Ia y tipo II. <strong>Las primeras (muy brillantes y uniformes) fueron usadas para medir la expansi\u00f3n acelerada del Universo, mientras que las segundas (menos brillantes y m\u00e1s heterog\u00e9neas) han sido menos usadas para estudios cosmol\u00f3gicos. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dentro del MAS investigamos cu\u00e1n \u00fatiles pueden llegar a ser las supernovas de tipo II para medir distancias.<\/strong> Estos eventos tienen una diversidad en brillo tal que las m\u00e1s brillantes emiten hasta 10 veces m\u00e1s energ\u00eda que las menos brillantes (ver panel superior de la figura). Si no consideramos esta diferencia de brillo intr\u00ednseco, medir\u00edamos distancias con hasta un 60% de error. En uno de nuestros estudios (<a href=\"http:\/\/adsabs.harvard.edu\/abs\/2014AJ....148..107R\">http:\/\/adsabs.harvard.edu\/abs\/2014AJ&#8230;.148..107R<\/a>) encontramos que podemos poner el brillo de estos eventos en una misma escala si conocemos cu\u00e1ndo explot\u00f3 la supernova y cu\u00e1l es la velocidad del material eyectado por la explosi\u00f3n (ver panel inferior de la figura). <strong>Este estudio sugiere que podemos medir distancias a supernovas de tipo II con una precisi\u00f3n cercana al 6%, similar a lo que se logra con las supernovas de tipo Ia<\/strong>. Actualmente, estamos observando muchas m\u00e1s supernovas de tipo II para comprobar los buenos resultados obtenidos. De ser as\u00ed, entonces tendr\u00edamos un nuevo objeto estelar para realizar estudios cosmol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15762\" style=\"width: 574px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.astrofisicamas.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/2017_05_24_ORodriguez2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15762 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.astrofisicamas.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/2017_05_24_ORodriguez2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"574\" height=\"574\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Panel superior: evoluci\u00f3n del brillo para un set de 14 supernovas de tipo II llevadas a una misma distancia.
