Like us, our star will have an end, which will come when it is no longer able to generate the necessary energy in its core to counteract the force of gravity, preventing it from collapsing in on itself. This will cause the outer layers of the Sun to be expelled in its search for equilibrium, while its core will begin to contract, ultimately creating a white dwarf. However, this stellar remnant will still have enough energy to heat the gas released from the outer layers of the star, giving life to a planetary nebula.
